According to a new study from the Environmental Working Group, EWG, stated “even tap water that has been dubbed ‘safe’ may not be and could increase cancer risk”.~ USA TODAY

Published in the journal Helivon, 22 known carcinogens commonly found in tap water include arsenic, byproducts of water disinfectants and radionuclides such as uranium and radium, 87% of cancer-risks in tap water are arsenic and disinfectant byproducts. They stated “most tap water meets legal standards set by the federal government, but do you really trust that statement when researchers find contaminants present in tap water measuring risk for cancer? “The vast majority of community water systems meet legal standards,” said Olga Naidenko, the vice president for science investigations at EWG, in a statement. “Yet the latest research shows that contaminants present in the water at those concentrations — perfectly legal — can still harm human health.”

Over 48,363 community water systems in the United States have been affected with 22 known cancer-causing carcinogens during a recent study, funded by the Park Foundation.
